In this article I intend to contextualising succinctly the figure of Antonio de Cabezón in the New World, taking into account his works of music Obras de Música that circulated in Mexico since 1586, only eight years after its publication in Madrid by his son Hernando in 1578. In connection with this I argue the existence of a prototype of a Mexican organ, based on the Blockwerk principle, linked to the Castilian organ of Cabezón’s time, represented in this case by a group of historic organs built and located in the province of Oaxaca in southeastern Mexico.
