Abstract

The exact names attributed to Ginés Pérez were never at all clear. His first appointment to the Cathedral in Valencia complicated matters even more when he was referred to with the Christian name of what appeared to be "Juan", which only added to the confusion as it lead us to believe that he was the only candidate to apply for that position. Today, however, we now know his true and full names: he was called Ginés Pérez de la Parra. We also know, for the first time, the exact date of his death. The quality of his compositions not only contributed to their popularity but gave rise to the works of other composers being attributed to him. The authorship of the majority of his compositions are considered anonymous, though they can be located in diverse archives. Even so, we cannot find a single copy of the O Crux attributed to his name, despite the numerous copies and their variants that abound in Region of Valencia.
