Abstract

On the wide set of problems that raises the application of literary text to the music with one's fixed on an accurate musical performance, this paper studies and analyses, through some musicals examples, a concrete aspect it could be considered in some compositions with texts on Spanish language of seventeenth century. This aspect deals with those pieces which shows only one tune for different stanzas of the lyrical text, considering two possibilities from the point of view of handwiting: 1) only one tune written for the different correspondent texts; 2) only one tune, but written again every time for each one of the different texts. In order to illustrate first possibility, which specially concerns to us, we will refer to the theoretical treatise of Pablo Nassarre (Escuela música..., 1724), as an authority criterion useful for the period. There is provided the responsability that has to be assumed by the singer when for performing the tune in an skillful way, making it suitable to the correct accent and flow of the words.
