O significado musical de tonus em Isidoro de Sevilha

The definition of tonus given by Isidor's Etym., 3, 20 is here analysed consedering the sources of Isidors, namely Cassiodor, and the historical limitations of Isidor in understanding the toni. No longer knowing the ancient toni of the Antiquity and not yet the gregorian modes, his musical definition is wrongly taken from Grammar, and corresponds to the tonic accent of words.
