Abstract

An unpublished manuscript concerning the Music Chapel in the collegiate church in Manresa, written by the local historian Joaquim Sarret i Arbós has provided us with much information about the said chapel, which was founded in 1611, relating to data on the electoral system, salaries and the duties of the maestri di cappella and the choir members as well as a chronology of the incumbent maestri di cappella from the year 1625 (Rev. Jaume Canyelles) until 1919 (Rev. Mariano Torras). We can therefore not only discover the names of the maestri di cappella and their work load, but also their acdvities and the context in which the Music Chapel developed in the collegiate church of the city of Manresa.
